Kandinsky at MaM

My two favorite artists are Wassily Kandinsky and Jackson Pollock.  I thought it would be years before I would see either of their works in front of my very own eyes.  There is something so different about seeing the actual works.  Books, the internet and reproductions are just not the same.

The Milwaukee Art Museum has the Kandinsky Retrospective showing right now.  The excitement I had when I saw this was beyond words.  I counted the days down.  Yesterday was the first day it was open to the general public. I went to see it. I will go back as many times as I can between now and the end of the exhibit.  I want to experience it in every mood I can.  I want to take it in at different times of the day.  I want to absorb as much of this show as I possibly can.  It could be a very long time before I get the opportunity again.  These memories have to last me a lifetime.

After I walked through twice I literally could not think.  I could not even look at other art work.   I learned more about art and its effects in those two hours than I have my entire life.  The sentiments that overcame me are going to be a game changer on how I approach my own art.  The Milwaukee Art Museum in the past has caused me a few let downs on exhibits I was excited for.  Not this time.  I was blown away. Bravo MaM!

I am no critique but I do know what I like.  The exhibit was done in such a way as to continually draw a person deeper into the exhibit both literally and figuratively.  One of my favorite and unexpected parts was a video of Kandinsky working.  It is a short video, but damn if it did not have an impact on me.

Being able to see the strokes of paint, the techniques used, and the different mediums caused many things to become clear to me.  Truly in art it is not about the medium or the style it is about the final work.  Kandinsky proves this over and over.

I can’t wait to go back. Thanks MaM that was amazing!
